A group of undergraduate Musical Theatre students visit the backstage of a theatre for work experience, however their host – the theatre manager – needs to immediately depart due to a family emergency and so leaves the girls to their own devices. During this time in the theatre, the girls meet a fascinating woman who leads them on a musical journey to discover what being a true performer is really about.
Production time at Santa Maria is always a period of excitement and creativity. Our productions vary between musicals, plays, original works and adaptations.
These productions, such as ‘Hairspray the Musical’, are overwhelmingly enjoyed and supported by the Santa Maria community. Inspired by this constant enthusiasm we have established a new performing arts entity called ‘The Company@Santa Maria’.
Building on the culture of excellence within the performing arts department, ‘The Company’ aims to continue the tradition of high quality musicals along with conceptual, contemporary theatre and dance.
‘The Company@Santa Maria’ is designed to be collaborative, inviting a range of artists, directors and choreographers - including industry professionals - to work with students on each annual production. This means the output will be exciting and new each time ‘The Company@Santa Maria’ is in development for performance.
Sitting within the inner city arts hub of Northcote, Santa Maria College is ideally placed to give our students a realistic understanding of what it means to work in the arts industry. Our rich arts curriculum is enhanced by many opportunities for performance and collaboration.
‘The Company@Santa Maria’ builds authentic skills in students, giving them exposure to professional experience and to individuals who can assist in making dreams come true.
