Duke of Edinburgh

‘Every individual has strength.  But it is together, as a connected group, that we become so much stronger’.
Niamh Moloney Gold Award graduate

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is one of the hallmark programs at Santa Maria. As an international award the skills, knowledge and qualities it promotes are recognised world wide.

The Award comprises:

  • Adventure experiences
  • Recreation
  • Skills development
  • Community service

The focus of the Award on leadership, cooperation, team work, confidence, self-esteem and resilience, makes it a highly valuable program in terms of holistic wellbeing.

Its community service component enhances many of the social justice and social engagement values within the college.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has three levels of achievement - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Bronze Award is fully integrated into the Year 9 curriculum as part of the Health and Physical Education program. The Duke of Ed Silver and Gold Awards are offered as co-curricular options in Year 10 and 11.

For close to a decade the College has been the highest recipient of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award in the State of Victoria.

The completion of the Gold Award allows students to apply for all Early Entry Access Schemes at university level.
